Georg Jensen

Inside Georg Jensen’s London home

A quiet invitation into the world of Scandinavian light on New Bond Street

Inspired by the unique interplay of light and nature in Denmark, Georg Jensen’s new London flagship brings a sense of Scandinavian serenity to the heart of Mayfair. Designed in collaboration with AKQA, the showroom is a quiet yet confident expression of the brand’s enduring commitment to craft, material honesty and modern innovation.

Housed in New Bond Street, the space stands as Georg Jensen’s most significant retail concept to date — an environment shaped by the Danish luxury brand’s core principles of timeless design and a deep respect for natural materials.

Anchored by the conceptual theme of Scandinavian Light, our design draws on the soft, diffused glow of the Nordic seasons — translating it into an atmosphere that is both warm and restrained. Traditional materials such as ash timber, green marble, burr walnut, and zinc are rendered in minimalist, contemporary forms to create a space that feels familiar yet forward-looking.

The ground floor jewellery salon introduces a series of tactile and refined interventions. Marble-painted walls by Danish supplier St Leo nod to the historic streetscapes of Copenhagen, while continuous marble skirting and a curved monolithic cash wrap guide visitors through the space. Custom ash joinery and linen-clad display walls punctuate the journey with moments of calm, encouraging contemplation and conversation.

“In Scandinavia we see light as the ultimate luxury. It’s been a pleasure to tell this story and give Londoners a glimpse of the Scandinavian nature that we deeply treasure.” — Nicolai Smith, Executive Creative Director AKQA

By combining moments of familiarity with modernity we juxtaposed the heritage of craft at Georg Jensen alongside the brand’s long history of innovation. Traditional materials, such as limestone, marble, burr timber and zinc are used in contemporary forms to create crafted pieces of furniture that feel of today with a nod to the brand's heritage.

Building on the success of their gallery pop-up in 2021, bespoke styling bars were incorporated to offer an intimate platform to experience the collections. Featuring zinc — selected for its subtle, light-reflective surface — the bars balance elegance with functionality.

A sculptural staircase leads to the first floor, where the experience shifts in tone. Homeware and silver hollowware are presented in immersive walnut-lined environments. Tiered, organic displays and integrated vitrines frame the objects like artefacts, heightening the sense of tactility and legacy.

Throughout the space, Danish design icons from Fredericia complement the architectural language. The furniture selection — spanning both heritage and contemporary pieces — reinforces the brand’s ethos of thoughtful design and long-term collaboration.

The visual merchandising toolkit has been reimagined with the same degree of sensitivity. Modular display elements made from linen and ash echo archival storage found in Georg Jensen’s Copenhagen headquarters, whilst offering refined, flexible frameworks for storytelling.

This new flagship is the culmination of years of collaboration between Georg Jensen, Universal Design Studio, and AKQA — drawing from deep archives, time-tested materials, and a shared passion for design that resonates beyond trend. It is a space that not only hosts products but captures an atmosphere: a modern tribute to the luxury of light.

“We wanted to create a harmonious environment that would make guests feel relaxed and hosted while exploring the Georg Jensen collections.” — Team at Universal
